Stephen Stares is a mining entrepreneur with over 32 years in mineral exploration. He began with Noranda Exploration, working on major projects like Hemlo and Geco, then spent a decade running Stares Contracting Corp. in Thunder Bay. In 2004, he co-founded Benton Resources, where he’s still President and CEO. He’s helped launch several TSX Venture companies, including Clean Air Metals, securing key deposits and building its team. In 2007, he and his family received the PDAC Bill Dennis Award for decades of industry contributions.

Stephen received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland at St. John’s in 1994 and is a registered Professional Geoscientist (PEGNL). He has more than 25 years of experience in gold and base metal exploration in Canada and the U.S.A. with both junior and senior exploration companies.

Evan Asselstine, CPA, CA
CFO
Evan Asselstine is a Chartered Professional Accountant with an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Lakehead University and has been CFO of Benton Resources Inc. since its founding in 2012. Before that, he was CFO and controller at Alset Energy Corp. (formerly Benton Capital Corp.), and controller at Metals Creek Resources Corp. from its launch in 2008. He also held finance roles in private industry, including two years as controller at a land development firm, and spent over seven years in public accounting, earning his CA designation at Ernst & Young LLP in 2002.

Barry received his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2004 and a diploma in Mineral Technology from College of the North Atlantic (CNA) in 1996. He has more than 25 years experience in a wide range of commodity types including gold, base metals, uranium, PGE’s and industrial minerals such as dimension stone, antimony, fluorite and LCT pegmatite deposits. He has held technical and managerial positions in mineral exploration and mining and has gained extensive experience in mine regulatory matters and mine development permitting.

Director
Michael Stares is a successful entrepreneur and a well-known prospector and project manager. He is a co-owner of Stares Contracting Corp. together with Stephen Stares as well as Director or Officer of several junior exploration companies. Michael’s background comes from 18 years of prospecting, 8 years with Noranda Exploration, having a fantastic track record for new discoveries. Michael has been given credit for the very timely advances in new discoveries on Benton’s projects.
Thomas Sarvas, CPA, CA
Director
Thomas Sarvas, CPA, CA, is a Partner at MNP in Thunder Bay and brings 30 years of experience in assurance, tax, and business advisory services. He works with a wide range of clients including First Nations, not-for-profits, professionals, and resource companies. He has deep experience in financial reporting, tax planning, corporate reorganizations, and advising exploration-stage companies. Tom earned his CA in 1984 after completing a Bachelor of Administration at Lakehead University. He has held leadership roles with Avenue II, the Northwestern Ontario LHIN, and serves as Treasurer on the board of the George Jeffrey Children’s Treatment Centre.

Director
Timothy Froude, P.Geo., is a geologist with over 30 years in mineral exploration and a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland. He spent nearly a decade with Inco Ltd., working on projects across North America and abroad, and was part of the team that discovered the Bobby’s Pond deposit. He also led the discovery of the Valentine Lake gold deposit, now being advanced by Marathon Gold. Tim has held senior roles at several junior mining companies, including VP of Exploration at Cornerstone Resources, Crosshair Exploration, and Golden Dory Resources. He also served as Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Chamber of Mineral Resources, and is currently President and CEO of Sokoman Minerals Corp.
John Sullivan, P.Geo
Director
John Sullivan, P.Geo., is a geologist and Mineral Exploration Consultant and has 50 years of experience in the mineral industry. He has held senior positions with Excellon Resources, Noranda, Watts, Griffis and McQuat, and Hudson Bay Mining. He has directed major exploration programs for both precious and base metal projects, managed field offices and evaluated projects in Canada, the United States, Europe, Africa and Latin America, in particular Mexico and Chile.
